When starting a new service or business, choosing a name is frequently one of the hardest decisions to make.
History of domain name purchases indicates that Satoshi Nakamoto, the person who invented Bitcoin (BTC), had another name in mind that was not included in the whitepaper.
The website domain for the original Bitcoin, Bitcoin.org, was made on August 18, 2008, by AnonymousSpeech.
It was discovered through domain purchases made under the alias AnonymousSpeech that Netcoin.org was established on August 17, 2008, one day before Bitcoin.org.
Further investigation revealed that there was never any material on the Netcoin.org domain, "but only when it was eventually repurchased by another person."
The discovery aids Bitcoin in separating itself from those who have in the past claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto.
After being cancelled, the Netcoin.org domain was later registered again in 2010 by a Web.com subsidiary.
